My Students

My students are bright, engaged, happy learners who come from what many would consider disadvantaged backgrounds.

We are a Title I school with a large number of diverse backgrounds.

We have a large number of students with learning disabilities or who are below grade in reading and/or math. My goal each year is to provide the tools and guidance needed to raise their achievements!

Nonfiction reading is essential when learning to read. My students will benefit from child based nonfiction reading on a variety of subjects. Monthly Scholastic News is a fun and engaging way for my students to learn about the world around them.

My Project

The addition of Scholastic News Magazine to my classroom will give my students a nonfiction monthly reading experience they deserve. My students will learn about the world around them and at the same time improve their reading skill in the area of nonfiction reading. With Scholastic News Magazine, my students can practice individual reading, reading with a partner, and group reading. They can also improve their comprehension and fluency with Scholastic News Magazine. Scholastic News Magazine is a fun, educational, and high interest additional reading source that can be utilized in my classroom to subliment our Science and Social Studies curriculium.
