Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I (majority of our students are economically disadvantaged) school in Houston, TX. Last year, my students (and co-workers) went through some extremely trying times due to weather. After Hurricane Harvey our students missed 3 weeks. Some our students came to school while still living in hotels with family members or friends, while the damage to their homes was repaired. They want to learn. They are strong and determined to learn.

My Project
I teach students who have struggled with reading and reading comprehensions for several years. Many have performed low since 1st grade. I would like to help end this cycle in 3rd grade. The Scholastic Weekly News Reader will help my students see children their age and open the door to possibilities. Also, the writing process folder will help students as the learn the steps involved in writing paragraphs and beyond. I want my students to feel proud of how far they have come in the course of the year.
