Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am proud to be a teacher in a Title I school who services approximately 475 students. My second grade general education classroom has an enrollment of 18 students. All my students are classified as low socioeconomic.
During the Hurricane Harvey, displacement affected our enrollment and many of our students lost everything; including homes and belongings.
Our school campus has graciously accepted any student into our school family no matter what district they attended prior to the storm. Greeting them with open arms.
My Project
What makes my job so exciting? My students are eager to learn, and enjoy the use of limited technology as they continue along their educational journey. What makes my position as a teacher so rewarding? Watching my students engaged in their learning is the ultimate reward. How can I continue to foster a love of learning in an engaging way? iPads would allow new learning opportunities for my students.
iPads would contribute to the learning process, and the attainment and application of new subject matter information.
The iPads will be used in learning stations during reading, mathematics, and science instruction. In reading, students would use apps that reinforce reading and writing skills, such as phonological awareness, vocabulary development, spelling, reading fluency, and reading comprehension. In mathematics, students would access educational programs, such as Dreambox and XtraMath, to reinforce mathematic problem solving, computation skill development and numeracy fluency. In science, students would use the iPad as a tool during science investigations using pic collage to enhance their lab reporting. In addition to core subject matter, the iPads would also allow students to learn about coding and programming through the access of Code.org. The use of this program would give the students insight into technology while making it fun and exhilarating. The addition of iPads to classroom learning would give my students a glimmer of hope for a better tomorrow after the rough start of year that has been overshadowed with heartache. To ensure that the iPads are protected and kept in great condition, each iPad will get a protective case.
