My students are the future. They will creative, invent, and discover things I can't even begin to imagine. I feel that it is my job to foster and encourage their creativity while they are in my classroom.
I teach 3rd grade at a public school in beautiful southwestern Idaho.
I have a wonderful wide array of students in my classroom. They come from vastly different social economic situations at home and have an even broader scope of academic strengths and needs. I have three students who have severe cognitive disabilities that make communicating with their peers and me a huge challenge. The rest of my 23 students treat these three with kindness, respect, and compassion. My school has a deep sense of community, and we take care of each other. The students in my class work as a team to accomplish goals. We celebrate each other successes, and we work together to problem solve when obstacles are in the way.
My Project
My students will connect the Osmo gaming system to our class' five iPad minis. The Osmo comes with 4 activities: Tangram, Newton, Masterpiece, and Words. With Tangram, students with enhance their visual spatial abilities. Students can create puzzles and recreate Tangram pictures. Students are challenged and advanced levels their skills increase. While using Words, students with hone in their word study skills while friendly competing with classmates. Students will be able to practice our weekly spelling lists as well as lists provided by the program. In Newton, students build problem solving techniques, develop perseverance, and formulate different strategies to solve challenging situations. The activity Masterpiece allows students to express their creativity and make drawings that are limited only by their own imagination.
The Osmo will provide my students with an innovative tool that supports their growing technology rich future.
The Osmo learning devices will help to level the academic playing field and open the door for all student to be creative and will help them become successful learners. The Osmo with help my cognitively impaired students to communication freely and to express their knowledge. The Osmo will add excitement and motivation to my classroom.
