Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 8th grade class is filled with growing readers who are eager to read. By the end of the year, my students will leave feeling ready for the demands of high school reading.
My school is a high performing, Title I school.
Many receive free and reduced-price lunch, and many rely on my classroom library for their reading material.
My students' reading levels do vary, but not their love of reading. It has been challenging to keep up with the demand, and by all means, I am more than up for it! Since I am fortunate to have a block schedule that allows for extended independent reading time and parents who encourage their kids to read at home, the books are passed around and read often. I am continuously searching for engaging and relevant books that will support their growth.
The books I have chosen are based on what they have recommended and what I believe will help them move up to the next level of reading.
My Project
Students will use these books for their independent reading, both in class and at home. It will help foster their love of reading and help them find understanding in the world. They will use the books to help them use their imagination, think about their reading, reflect on the strategies they use while reading, and make connections to the book may have to the bigger world.
The donations to this project will help improve classroom become even richer with texts.
Students will have access to a variety of books right in front of them and feel prepared for high school reading.
