My students need one iPad mini, one mini case, one adapter, and two headphone splitters to increase their love of reading and technology in our second grade classroom.
My students have limited access to various kinds of technology throughout the school day. By gaining a classroom iPad mini, students will get the daily opportunity to work hands-on with this amazing piece of technology. This may be the only chance my students can work with something like this.
This August, I will welcome 22 new second graders to my second grade classroom.
They are incredible individuals that yearn to participate in new learning opportunities. They get so excited when they get to work with technology! You can see it on their faces! Recently our town in central Oklahoma was devastated by a massive tornado. Our school was spared by less than a mile. Many of our school's students lost their homes and every student sees the destroyed area on a daily basis. We will take in students from the two nearby elementary schools that were hit, because these students also lost their homes and have since moved into our area. I know these students are specifically going through a hard time. New and fun technology in their classroom will likely help to take their mind off of the devastation that they have gone through.
My Project
We have two classroom computers, but having accessibility to a classroom Apple iPad mini with Wi-Fi access would open many doors. It would serve as a listening center, a tool to conduct research, and students could explore the many educational applications available to them. I am requesting a case to protect the iPad, in case it gets dropped! I am also asking for an adapter, which I can use to hook the iPad up to our SmartBoard for whole class instruction. Finally, I am requesting two headphone splitters, which will help the iPad be used as a listening center. The listening center will be used to help those students who struggle with reading concepts such as listening and comprehension skills. There are hundreds of educational applications the students will have access to, which include reading, math, language arts, and more. Each of the requested materials will help students become more familiar with technology and provide an interactive way of learning.
Donations to this request would be incredible.
Students will always remember having an iPad mini in their second grade classroom. They will cherish their time on it and will likely tell their families about it at home! Knowing it was donated to them will make them feel very loved and cared for. This is a huge impact itself! Students need to know they are loved so they can love one another. By getting this project funded, a difference will be made inside and outside our classroom. Thanks!
