My Students

First grade is such an exciting time for my students. They are beginning their journey on learning how to read. It is excited to see their smiling faces learn about new interesting topics. They enjoy a wide variety of genres to peak their interest into helping them grow!

I want to be able to share my passion for how important reading is with my students!

The students in my classroom come from a variety of backgrounds. Some students do not have the foundational tools at home to support them in their learning. I want to ensure I can meet their needs by guiding my students in achieving a solid education.

My Project

As an educator I want to provide the best education I can for each of my students and ensure I meet their needs. In first grade my main goal is to teach my students about the importance of reading and how to read. The resources I am requesting are books that are developmentally appropriate for my students. I want to offer my students a variety of fiction and nonfiction books that will engage and promote a strong literacy foundation and become a 21st century learner. I chose Rookie Readers for Science and Math because these books include first grade vocabulary where students can be supported during their reading by using their decoding strategies as they read. I will use these books during my whole group reading time by integrating them with my core subjects like math, social studies and science to help reading become a common thread throughout. I will use them to introduce new standards, vocabulary, and comprehension strategies. Students will be able to select a book and have the option to pick a reading buddy to read during independent reading time.

As a teacher I want my students to be able to become inquiry based learners through exploring,being inquisitive, and learning from these books.

I want to give my students the opportunities and tools they need to succeed in their educational journey.
