I truly believe you can travel anywhere through the pages of a book. You can be anyone, do anything, or accomplish any goal.
For the students in our small town, many will unfortunately not have the luxury to travel beyond the pages in the stories that they read.
The library in my classroom is extremely limited due to an unavailability of funding. At this point in time I am unable to provide my students with an ample variety of reading material.
My Project
My students need various books to enhance our classroom library and to provide reading material with more appropriate reading levels. I believe that given the opportunity to provide my students with new literature we will begin to see not only their imaginations grow but their knowledge and love for reading grow as well. I am a believer that through appropriate literature a child has the means to make not only their future brighter but also their community, state, and country! They are our future, and they need the means to make their own happy endings.
Patricia Polacco said it best when she wrote, “Honey is sweet and so is knowledge, but knowledge is like the bee that made that sweet honey, you have to chase it through the pages of a book.”
