This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Students at my school attend a Chicago neighborhood public school who face many challenges to their typical school day. Some are first generation immigrants, some are English Language Learners, and most come from impoverished neighborhoods. But they all strive to bring their best selves, showing up ready to learn and compete with students across the nation.
But overwhelmingly they are successful mathematicians who strive for excellence while maintaining their intellectual curiosity through problem-solving and collaborative work.
They are active learners who often score above and beyond their peers in nationally norm-referenced tests. They deserve the resources to make them competitive to those peers going forward.
My Project
Did you know that 34% of students take Algebra I in middle school nationwide? Yet, this will be our first year at our school offering it. That means we need the resources to make our first cohort successful! They have the knowledge, capacity, and intellectual curiosity, now they need the graphing calculators.
This requested EZ Spot Graphing Calculator Teacher Kit contains ten graphing calculators.
The calculators will be a tool for students to further experiment with graphing, computer programming, and higher order calculations that will further their mathematical inquisitiveness. These graphing calculators will allow students who can not make the costly purchase to stay competitive with their peers nationally. They will offer them the change to use technology to improve their mathematical literacy and open the gates to higher- level math. The TI-84 Plus Graphing Calculator Charging Station will ensure that charged calculators will always be available to the students.
