This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are kind, sweet, creative and inquisitive.
I serve students from age 3 to 6 in a special needs classroom in a high poverty district - providing services to students who are most in need.
They deserve to have the same opportunities in school as their more affluent peers. They deserve to have access to equitable materials, and explore their world in a way that is developmentally appropriate.
My students deserve access to colorful materials, individualized activities, hands-on activities and materials that will encourage exploration, language building, and fine motor skills in the classroom - skills they will use for the rest of their lives.
My Project
The preschool special education classroom is ever-changing with students' needs! Many of my students need to be working while standing to meet their physical needs, but are too small to stand at the tables in the classroom to play due to their size.
An activity table that is lower in height will allow for so many different "invitations to play" - especially using some of these new open ended materials!
As materials age, they may begin to crack or be unable to be properly sanitized for student use and will need to be replaced.
Some of these materials go with projects that have been previously funded to expand their options, and some of these materials will be used to phase out old and outdated materials in order to provide the students with the safest and most updated materials to meet all of their needs!
