Every child can learn from a book. Learning to read is like opening a new door each day and allowing kiddos to create a world of imagination.
Our classroom is full of literacy. We spend 90 minutes each day on literacy. It is important that kiddos immerse themselves in literacy.
Our school is a welcoming environment with many different cultures.
We are so blessed with these multi-cultural experiences so that we can learn from everyone.
We have a population of 53% of free and reduced lunch kiddos. Many of our students struggle in the area of reading due to the inability of having books at home. This is why immersing kiddos with language, books, and listening to books is so important to their learning.
My Project
We have adopted the Comprehensive Literacy Model in our district. Each day, we are in our literacy block for 90 minutes. During this time, we also do Daily 5 which consists of reading with the teacher (guided reading), read to self, read to someone, listening to books, and working with words. During their time listening to books, kiddos develop a good sense of what reading with fluency sounds like, looks like, and feels like. These audio books will help kiddos develop what reading with fluency means.
These audio books will provide students with a positive learning and literacy experience in order to learn how to read with fluency.
These books will also help my kiddos develop an amazing sense of good books. By immersing kiddos into "good" literature, it will get them to love learning and loving to READ!
