Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am very excited to be teaching my first year of school and instill the love of reading, learning, and writing for my high school English classes. The students I will be teaching come from a variety of different backgrounds, but the majority of them come from economically disadvantage situations. I want to provide them an environment that fosters their creativity and learning.
I want my students to come to school and think of it as an escape from their lives outside of school.
To do this, I want to create an environment that they feel comfortable in and that makes them want to come to school everyday. I am hoping to create a library corner that is filled with books and comfortable seating that encourages my students to find joy in reading. Reading is a door into a new world that provides many opportunities. I want my students to experience this.
My Project
These new books and seating will create the opportunity for my students to become super readers. My students will have the opportunity to read everyday for 20mins. This is a way for my students to be exposed to the art of literature.
This is a way for my students to increase their test scores and literacy.
Only about 30% of my students are able to pass their end of year test. The daily reading will expose my students to more words, sentence structures, and texts that will help them improve their test scores. Data shows that the more students read, the better they do on standard tests. I want all of my students to pass their tests. Having access to relevant books and instilling time to read books will dramatically improve their scores.
