I am blessed to work with an energetic and diverse class family. We work hard to grow and learn together. When I first started teaching, I wanted kids to succeed but didn't always connect with my students. In recent years I have learned the importance of building solid relationships with my students and increasing my ability to relate my instruction to my students and current events.
Bringing more diverse literature to my classroom will lead my students to be compassionate leaders today and in our future!
My Project
My classroom is a diverse, unique situation. We have multiple first languages but learn and work together. My students need the opportunity to read about people that are similar and they need the challenge to learn about and accept diverse people of other cultures as well. But, books (especially picture books) can be expensive. These books display a variety of people from multiple places and learning experiences. My students need access to this literature.
This book project will help me do so much more than simply teach my standards!
The students will learn to work in community together based on the conversations that will bloom from reading these books. I long to impact our students not just for one school year, but to the people they will interact with long after they leave my classroom. This project will help our class be successful in building life long learners and leaders.
