My students need art supplies like glue sticks, crayons, and jumbo stampers for a fun way to learn new language concepts and engage in some hands on activities.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a low-income special education preschool with children who have autism, language and communication needs, and/or orthopedic impairments.
Communication is the essence of human life.
For someone who has never struggled with communicating their wants and needs, it is hard to imagine how difficult life would be without it. Many of my children have trouble with this, as well as other functional, social, and educational skills. I have the awesome job of working with these kids and working with amazing teachers to support their students' language-learning in the classroom. I am a new teacher with limited resources and I am always trying to find new ways for my children to be interested in learning about how to better use their speech and language. My goal is to give my students with autism and orthopedic impairments access to things that every child their age has access to. The technology, toys, games, and devices available today are amazing and I would like to do my part to help my kids have the opportunity to experience them.
Thank you for reading and thank you for thinking about my kiddos that mean so much to me.
My Project
I chose a variety of items that are used in our speech room constantly. We use laminated sheets to create adapted books for our kids to engaging in reading. We use construction paper to create many different crafts and activities that pertain to the curriculum being studied. Today, we made white buses and colored them yellow for our "back to school" theme. The yellow construction paper we are ordering would have been a resource for this project and look forward to what crafts we will create in the future! The tissue paper circles will be used in winter to make snowflakes and give an example of the concept of "up and down". We throw them in the air and watch as they fall down slowly; a very motivating activity.
Children benefit from being introduced to new concepts in a variety of ways; including crafts and art!!
My kids show a specific interest in art and are more engaged during these activities. The speech room would benefit from more supplies to make some fun and creative things that can be taken home and talked about with their parents for even more speech practice! Thank you for your consideration!
