As a teacher in a high poverty area, I realize that my students face challenges, sometimes severe, both outside of and in the classroom. Because of that I want to make my students' lives here as memorable and enjoyable as possible. I want for my students to have meaningful learning experiences while in my classroom.
My kids amaze me every single day.
Although I cannot control what they see and hear outside of my classroom, I can certainly control what goes on inside of it. In both their reactions to in class activities and to me as their teacher, as most are positive and open to new ideas and ways of doing things. Despite the many challenges they might face outside of the classroom, it never fails to see students approach my classroom with a positive attitude.
My Project
The fact of the world we live in today is that technology is all around us, and for the most part is fully integrated into almost everything we do. Therefore we would be remiss to say that students can learn effectively without access to it. Although we have dedicated computer labs, getting time in them is another matter altogether and is oftentimes impossible. Having Chromebooks in the classroom would mean that my kids would have readily accessible technology in the classroom with them at all times.
By allowing them to have that technology, even as few as five, you will be allowing my students the opportunity not only to learn how to effectively use technology, but also to experience it in a meaningful way.
Being a teacher in a high poverty area often translates into kids not having that said experience outside of school. The opportunities that these Chromebooks will provide in terms of activities and lessons expand the limits beyond traditional paper and pencil activities and provide students with opportunities to experience technology in a meaningful, constructive way.
