Our school serves students grads 6-12 and provides a diverse curriculum with an amazing staff of teachers and administrators. We work to ensure our students feel that they belong and have the support they need to be successful in their academic endeavors. Our student body comes from a variety of economic circumstances with 40% of our students currently receiving free or reduced lunch.
Our school is a tight-knit community, students come to each day with a tremendous amount of passion for their learning and for their peers.
Working with all those around them in pursuit of understanding. In such a small district these students have grown together into a formidable team for exploration and discovery. Endless curiosity is perhaps the most valuable resource in a science classroom and our students bring more than their fair share.
My Project
Our 10th grade broad field science course is built entirely around the concept of space exploration. We focus first and foremost on building the skills and background knowledge necessary to fully understand the inner workings of stars and planet formation. This lens allows us to look deeply into how chemistry and physics help dictate the movement and processes taking place not only here on earth, but throughout our universe.
Inspiration is the key to success and engagement in any learning endeavor.
What better way to inspire a young mind than to introduce them to the wonders of our solar system. Chemistry and physics can be very intimidating topics for a young mind; this is often compounded by the often heard "Why do I need to know this". By engaging students early through real life exploration of the night sky, students build the intrinsic motivation to acquire the skills needed to fully understand this amazing place.
The materials in this fundraiser will be used to host regular evening events in which students and their families have the opportunity to explore the night sky. This project has the added benefit of helping strengthen the relationship between the school and our communities. What better way to engage a future student than to have them experience science at a young age. Students will also have the opportunity to study the physics of light as we examine the concepts behind lenses and magnification.
By donating to our project you will be providing not only a service to our students, but a service to their families and community as well. Your gift will help us inspire and educate young minds.
