Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My children are cute, sweet and funny little people! It doesn't take a lot to make them happy. They are eager to learn and eager to please.
But, none of these kids have it easy.
Many of them speak Spanish or another language at home. A lot of them qualify for free lunch. A lot of them don't get to participate in classes or hobbies outside of school, so school is it for them! It's where they learn reading and math, and it's the place where they come to do interesting, fun and valuable activities.
My Project
With Raz Plus, I can assign students to an appropriate reading level based on their reading ability - because first graders are not all at the same level. Then, the children can download an app for free that gives them access to our classroom account, and the children can read on the app at home, choosing from a vast library of titles at their own level.
We ask children to read at home for fifteen minutes every night, to build their skills and stamina - and hopefully their love of reading!
Often, I hear from my students' families that they do not have books at home, or that they do not have books that are appropriate for them to read independently.
I have seen that children really enjoy using Raz Kids. They love technology, and so technology combined with reading is a win-win, for the child as well as for the teacher - who wants nothing more than to see her students progress as readers!
