This school year, I teach 22 Kindergarten students, most of which I taught during our summer learning hub program or know because their siblings have been in my class. We are lucky to live here on Kaua'i where our COVID numbers remain relatively low. We still get to enjoy our beaches, families, and friends, even though gatherings are limited to ten people. COVID-19 will not hinder these children from learning and playing.
Instead, the current pandemic will teach these students resilience.
We meet everyday online for synchronous lessons. I admire their will to learn and participate, even when miles away. When they log on, they ALWAYS greet each other with GOOD MORNINGS and HELLOS!
My Project
Here in Hawai'i, schools are now participating in 100% distance learning. On O'ahu, COVID-19 cases spiked with three digit numbers everyday. Here on Kaua'i, we are blessed to have very little to no active COVID-19 cases. However, we have essential workers that fly in and out from the outer islands daily. We cannot overwhelm our hospital's limited resources and are playing it safe here on Kaua'i.
I am asking for an Apple iPad and Apple pencil to annotate and record lessons for Kaua'i's families tucked safely at home.
I hope this resource will allow students to stay engaged and actively learning through asynchronous lessons after my synchronous lessons have finished for the day.
