Help me give my students an excellent online auto shop experience. The cart includes plastic car models and the paint and supplies to build them. I'll film the process and upload the videos to the online classroom.
Our high school in Lake County, California is closed due to the pandemic. Most of our students are low income and this closure makes it even more difficult for them. Many of the students are dependent upon our district to provide a laptop for at-home use as well as set them up with internet service at least through this tough time. Students that do not have internet or computer must come down to the school's distribution center and pick up paper packets to complete and return. We are hopeful that we can get electronic access for the vast majority of our students and bring the education into the home of every student.
I am working from home to provide and online auto shop experience for my students. This is difficult but I am having success filming the projects that I work on, then post the videos online for the students to watch, critique and discuss. Ultimately they have short quizzes based off of the videos.
I am making this happen in two ways.
First, I am filming real automotive projects in the shop that I work on, then post the videos. Secondly, I'm using plastic models to make the demonstrations and relating the models to real-life applications in the shop.
