Remember that one book that hooked you early on? The excitement you had for the topic and the interest it set off well into your future.
My students share that excitement of reading.
They are curious, creative, and caring individuals who are always looking forward to finding out about something unknown to them. Having books that peak their interests will keep their reading going and thirst for knowledge. This will help bring the stories of the world to them from the comfort of the classroom.
My Project
I am a 2nd-year teacher new to 4th grade and am looking to enhance my classroom library. The library is used in various ways throughout the year to enhance lessons covered in class and to expand my students’ interests in addition to creating new ones. I encourage students to choose books and read them independently during class time. Students love having this option to read independently and choose from a collection of different interests, themes and genres. These books have been chosen with my students in mind to help them grow as an individual and as part of the larger community.
Allowing students to choose books from a wide variety of themes and genres, will help students to continue to enjoy independent reading.
Keeping their enjoyment in reading will help boost their reading ability. Reading more helps students grow, not only in their abilities, but also their character and world knowledge. Their interest for independent reading has been exemplified in the classroom already, and this project will help fuel them further.
