Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first year teacher and will be teaching 5th grade English Language Arts and Reading. I have 75 students. Many of my students come from low-income families and do not have books of their own at home. I will be implementing an independent reading time in the classroom so that students have time to read in the classroom.
We will be setting up a classroom sign in and out system for the students to take these books home.
The students are sweet and deserving of new books to help build their reading skills.
My Project
I would love to provide my students with a classroom library that they deserve. We have independent reading time everyday and I love seeing my students engaged during this time. I want to provide them with a variety of books to help keep them engaged. The books I have chosen for the classroom library range graphic novels to award winners.
There are different series as well, including Harry Potter and The Chronicles of Narnia.
These books provide enriching opportunities about curriculum related topics on varied reading levels so that all of the children in my room can find books to read that will help them learn.
