Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am the varsity coach at the high school level. The school has the smallest population in our school district with only 2,030 students. A majority of the school’s population, 47.7%, is Hispanic or Latino. In addition, the school has 45.5% socioeconomically disadvantaged.
What I love about my students is that even though they do not have a lot, they still work hard on the field.
They know that they need to work hard in the classroom in order to play soccer. They are dedicated to playing soccer in college. I want to help support them achieve that dream. However, our soccer team is lacking the equipment to enhance our practice sessions.
Due to our small population, we find it very difficult to raise sufficient funds or have similar resources as our sister schools. Any sort of donations will help us to acquire new uniforms or gear to help the program progress.
My Project
These donations will make a difference by allowing us to run more efficient training sessions. We are currently sharing our resources among three teams (55 players) which forces us to train at separate times or to not use certain resources at all.
Currently we have about 20 soccer balls shared between 3 teams.
This makes it difficult to run a smooth practice because we are constantly gathering balls that are hit out of the drill space. We would like to have at least 12 balls per team to allow for smoother uninterrupted training sessions and it will allow the teams to train simultaneously. This will allow the Freshman team to interact with the Varsity team making our program stronger.
