One, Two, Three, Four...What Do You Think We Are Asking For?
My students need four iPod shuffles.
In order to learn a language, we must hear a language from as many possible sources, accents, and mediums as possible. I want my students to be able to listen to music from around the world, hear podcasts, and succeed at the listening portion of their formal exams throughout high school.
This fall, our district will be launching a new internationally minded and highly rigorous program where all students from 5th through 10th grade will be enrolled in a foreign language.
Students, who have not pursued the language tract in the past, will now be taking a second language as a core class.
We are looking for some tools to assist us with these transitions and having access to ipod shuffles will foster the development of skills for communication, intercultural understanding and global engagement, qualities that are essential for life in the 21st century.
With this new program, there will be a higher emphasis on listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, and at the same time, our class sizes will also be at maximum capacity.
Having technology available for students who need more one on one time and have the opportunity to work at their own pace or will allow my students to experience language in variety of different ways.
