This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are struggling readers and writers in kindergarten and first grade. This is the most important time for these young and eager students to gain the confidence and understanding of reading concepts that are necessary to be SUCCESSFUL readers and, in turn, SUCCESSFUL writers.
My students are eager and excited to learn all they can.
They come from low income households where books are often not available for their reading pleasure. My students often come to school with little experience of being read to and often lack a true love for reading and writing. I want to give my students the confidence and joy that reading a story and writing about it brings in an environment that is comfortable and appropriate for their age level.
My Project
This wonderful half moon shaped table will provide my students with a place to learn all that they can in our reading groups. They will be able to focus on the lessons at hand while the teacher is within easy reach for assistance as needed. You would be amazed how focused a group of students can be when the furniture they are using is appropriate for their age level.

Kindergarten and first grade is a pivotal year in building successful readers and writers. I am ready for this adventure and so are my students!
