My students need 30 pedometers and a Powered by Pedometers Educational CD.
My students recently had a visit from a (FCCLA) high school student who needed to prepare for her upcoming state competition. She came & spoke to my 4th graders about healthy snacks. Katrina taught them the basics of making wise choices for snacks. She even shared a recipe for a sour cream & honey dip for fruit. Needless to say, many students had a hard time acquiring a taste for it. But the following day, I had one student in particular who was proud to show off her healthy fruit salad. Soon, the trend took off & students were literally checking out each others snacks. Another thing that Katrina pointed out was the pedometer she was wearing, she emphasized that making healthy food choices & exercising were key to becoming healthy adults. She promised to purchase a pedometer for each of my students. Well, it was a good idea but being that she's a HS sophomore without a job, I knew I had to step in.
Knowing that Katrina's parents were going to supplement this project, I took the idea & ran. There is so much my class could benefit from this pedometer project. It can be utilized for math, social studies, science to name just a few curriculum connections. I even figured I could join the challenge!
You never know...this pedometer phenomenon may just hit the entire building knowing my enthusiastic bunch! I'd like to get the pedometer's for the class & get them moving just in time for the Spring weather. The only thing missing are the pedometers.
So, lets work together & get these kids healthy. They may just make an impact on their families. Who wouldn't benefit from a little fresh air? Help my students to take a stride towards good health.
