Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at an elementary school where every child matters. School is often students' "safe place" where they know they will be fed and loved by all the teachers around them. Every day the teachers are here for the students because sometimes we are the only constant thing in their lives.
At our school, we want all students to succeed no matter what obstacles they have in their way.
Many of our students struggle with broken homes. When education isn't the number one priority in the household, we as teachers have to teach students to be self-motivated and develop a love of learning or determination in everything that they do.
My Project
A uniform generates team unity that can keep players motivated to succeed. The uniform also creates equality. Whether you are the starting pitcher or team manager, your main goal is to win as a group. No individual is more important than the other and that's what teamwork is all about.
A wise man once said "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." At our school, we want to give all of our athletes shots.
Despite our disadvantages, we are able to compete with teams with matching uniforms, more equipment and skilled players. The wrestlers happily wear miss matched uniforms, torn singlets, or something in the wrong size just to be a part of the team. They are proud of the jersey they wear no matter what it looks like.
If funded, this project will help our wrestling team have matching singlets. Right now only our varsity team has matching singlets which consists of 15 athletes. With these singlets, all wrestlers can have a uniform that matches their teammates no matter if they are on varsity or JV.
Wrestling is a sport that is open for all students in 4th grade to 6th grade. We want to make sure that we can keep all the players that are interested in hopes to teach them teamwork and determination that will help them be successful for the rest of their lives.
