At our site we work with a diverse community of students. The students that we work with are from at-risk living situations and placed with us until they can be put back into a situation that will benefit their growth as an individual. At our school we look at the whole child, see the good in everyone and know that we all have areas that we can improve on. We love our students, their amazing imaginations, the goals that they are setting and love seeing how they grow during their time with us.
In our classroom we try to utilize the arts and social skills in all of our classes and within all of our curriculum.
My Project
Our students are helping to build our one room schoolhouse library. Students have put a lot of thought into picking books that they know others will enjoy. Students plan on continuing our student-run book clubs and student book reports. Our book reports are non-traditional and done as projects. Some examples would be dressing up as a character from a book for a day, creating movie posters about the book or making a travel brochure based on the location of the setting in the book.
Our students are working together to create a library that has book reviews so people can know what books may interest them based on other students' feedback.
