This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work at an inner-city school with students who are struggling daily with having the basic needs met daily. I have students who are absent from school because they have drunk and bathed in toxic lead water. Many of my students learn online and sit at computers for several hours. The school offers free lunch, breakfast, and snacks to all students enrolled. The school also offers a free public bus pass so that students can travel to and from work.
My students have taken ownership of their environment, they connect and help the new students and they are proud of their success.
I love my career, I love my students and I love my work family. I have had the privilege to work with some of the most amazing students who have experienced life and struggled to get out of their situation. I am fortunate to spend time with them daily.
My Project
My students are designing the perfect setting, they are measuring drawing and then creating. The students will be using the tools to hang and repair our classroom bookshelves and items on the wall.
Before using the tools they must first draw their designs to make sure the project will go as planned.
The pink tools will help me to know that the tools belong to our room and do get absorbed into the custodians' supplies. The writing pens will help the students remain excited about writing and drawing out their plans. They seem to steal my ink pens all the time.
