"The future of the world is in my classroom today." - Ivan Welton Fitzwater
I teach an amazing group of first-grade students.
The twenty-two boys and girls who make up my first-grade class are wonderful boys and girls who love learning. They are all at varying levels of learning, but working hard every day to grow as readers, writers, and young mathematicians and scientists.
There are students with special needs and students who are working hard just to learn the English language. There are students who find school a struggle and students who are considered gifted in reading and math and need a challenge. The students in my class are also very diverse in their economic backgrounds, with many of them struggling to simply get basic needs.
My Project
I am requesting one iPad for my students to run the interactive learning system called Osmo. The Osmo learning system reinforces learning concepts in reading and math using hands-on play with an iPad. The iPad is set up on a base and connected to a camera that projects images onto a work surface. Osmo gives the students the ability to manipulate letter, numbers, words, shapes, colors etc. that are displayed on the iPad. The iPad provides instruction on what to do, and feedback on how the child is doing.
With a larger iPad that would be used only for Osmo more of my students could access the system at all times, bringing a whole new world of activities and problem solving alive for myself students.
Using Osmo with this iPad will help my students practice math and reading daily. It will build on their natural curiosity and love of learning, and give them another way to enhance their learning.
