Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach fourth grade in a working class and immigrant neighborhood. Most of my students are learning English as a second language, some of them have special needs, and all of them love to learn. Our Title I school is an important safe haven for my kids, who are surrounded by poverty and gang activity.
Very few of my kids have computers at home, so they get most of their exposure to technology from school. Our school has an advanced computer lab where we use valuable learning programs such as Accelerated Reader and the Mind Research Math program. Because our school's computer lab schedule is always full, my kids have limited time to explore with these programs or use the Internet for research.
With the generous help of DonorsChoose donors, we have been building our own classroom computer lab, but we need more computers. Right now we have enough computers for 4 kids to share each one, but it's hard for them to see the screen when they share. Our dream is to have one laptop per child.
My kids need a Hewlett Packard Mini notebook computer! This is a terrific HP product, and it would be a great asset to our growing computer lab--this proposal is one of many. With a new netbook, we'll be able to have more time on computers for using the Internet and educational applications. Since our school is equipped with wireless technology, our kids will be able to complete their work from anywhere in the classroom. The small keyboards fit well with their little hands, and they can even store the laptops inside their desks while they are not using them. How cool is that?!
