Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Being a teacher these days requires being productive in and out of the classroom through the use of technology. This is why I am in desperate need of a Macbook Pro! I need to engage my students and enhance my otherwise boring lessons with lessons that come to life with the use of a Mac Pro laptop!

I teach at a public Title 1 funded dual language program school which brings together a diverse community of learners.

My students are bilingual and biliterate and demonstrate academic performance at grade level. But in order to develop higher level thinking skills such as: problem solving, creative and analytical thinking, I am in need of a laptop on daily basis. I am very fortunate to have access to an Eno Whiteboard which can be used interactively; but what good does it do if I do not have own a laptop. My students love to participate in interactive lessons through the use of an ENO board. The problem is I need immediate and continuing access to a laptop without waiting in line at the school library to check one out when one becomes available.Recently in my classroom I have found that using power point presentations and videos strengthens my students vocabulary and their understanding. The laptop would bring visuals into the classroom that would otherwise not be possible.

My Project

Imagine the possibilities with a laptop for creative instruction and motivation for learning, and how that would lead directly to student achievement.Students will be able to create their own power point presentations and use them as tools for their research projects, bookclubs, social studies, math and science lessons. A laptop with access to the internet would allow for clear modeling of math concepts and use of digital manipulatives. My students would also be able to model their own strategies and thinking for the class. This will lead to students becoming "technologically savvy" to meet the needs of society in the future. In addition, the Mac Pro laptop would also significantly reduce the amount of paper used throughout the day and help my students reach the goal of becoming more green in our classroom. The Eno board interfaces with the laptop, allowing students to highlight text or images by using a digital pen, and what is impressive is that the lessons can be saved and revisited.

Technology combined with good teaching leads to success!

The use of laptops are the future of educational strategies, and without proper adoption of these and other technology tools, teachers are doomed to become dinosaurs in their practices. Call them digital natives or millennial thinkers. We know today’s students learn better and faster with multimedia, multisensory, multidimensional lessons. It’s their native language, so please help us take learning to a new dimension!
