This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work at a Title I school. We have a small weight room that has been slowly built over the years. Currently we have old metal plyo boxes for our athletes to use. The issue with these boxes is if an athlete misses the jump they tend to skin their knees on the metal and bruise their shins. This causes a lot of athletes to become too afraid to try and jump at a new height. As a result the athletes lose confidence in their abilities and lose motivation to do box jumps. With softer plyo boxes, our athletes would lose the fear of injury from the old metal boxes and be able to jump to new heights. In addition, other sports like volleyball, football, and basketball will be using the boxes during their respective seasons. Our goal is to build better athletes. We allow all of our athletes to train in the weight room if they choose and we have started a powerlifting program for students to help them develop self confidence and participate in an additional sport beyond traditional winter sports.
