My school is nestled in a small rural area in western North Carolina. We serve pre-kindergarten through sixth grade students. We have four classes in most grade levels with approximately twenty students per class. Our school has a high Hispanic population. A large majority of our students are bilingual and interpret for their parents. Many of our students receive free and reduced lunch and we currently have a universal free breakfast program. We also have a food backpack program that is supported by local churches and organizations. This program provides food for some of our students and their families on weekends.
My third graders are an energetic and loving group of children!
They are thirsty for knowledge and eager to learn each day. Our class has a collaborative climate. It’s typical to walk into our room and see students scattered all over the place. Some are at computers, some are at desks, and some are working together in groups on the floor. We spend a large portion of our day working collaboratively and learning from each other in small groups.
My Project
My students would use this iPad to post work to their online story boards on classroom Dojo. Students complete small group math tasks and then post photos of their work for parents and myself to see. Students can photograph, label, and add captions to their work with the iPad. The second reason we need an iPad is to complete Mobymax math assignments. Mobymax Math is an online program that individualizes math instruction for my third graders. They work on math assignments and build math fact fluency daily on this program. It provides them with immediate feedback while I'm able to continue instruction with another group of students.
An iPad would mean more opportunity for students utilizing technology in my math classroom.
More students would be making online posts and more students would be actively engaged on Mobymax. I want to provide as many rich and exciting learning opportunities as possible to my students. This iPad would help make this happen.
