Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The almost 900 students at our school live in a low-income neighborhood with limited access to basic school supplies. We are a Title I school with almost all of the students qualifying for free breakfast and free lunch each day.
Although my students have limited access to resources, they are enthusiastic to come to school each day to learn many new standards.
I look forward to giving my students many of the much-needed supplies this year by asking the generous donors to provide these supplies.
My Project
Each year, my fifth grade students are taught financial literacy and how to make a “make-believe“ budget for themselves. It has always been interesting to me to see how students choose to spend their money, budget their money, and even run out of money by the end of the month!
I would like to have supplemental materials to teach my students financial literacy skills such as spending, saving, and counting money.
We will use money bingo, the bingo plastic counters to use for bingo, the match game, and money flashcards to help reinforce the skills we learn about money in the classroom. In addition to these supplies, they will be able to take home some of the supplies to help them practice their skills at home as well.
Thank you for considering my fifth grade project this year.
