Challenges in and out of the classroom are not new to my students. I teach at a Title I High School in South Sacramento. 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Dinner is provided for students enrolled in 7th period. My class is a SPED Resource Class compromising of 28 learning disabled students. My classroom is their safe haven. In my room, they get support from myself and my aide. They have access to supplements, technology, and classroom materials. I seek to provide my students a secure and meaningful learning environment.
Despite their learning disabilities, my students seek the opportunity to be successful community leaders, members, and contributors.
My students are all encouraged to enroll in higher education after high school. They all receive rigorous academic training in all their classes - general and special ed. Most of my students are enrolled in a career pathway class that is connected to our small learning community. They learn a skill, get trained, and hopefully earn gainful employment. My students are part of our future. They should be given the same opportunity and experiences that most consider as normal. They want to be, can be, and will be successful.
My Project
I teach high school students with learning disabilities in a Title I school. My students often come to my room to work on their general ed class assignments or finish their online classes.
Our classroom computer is more than 15 years old.
It is old and tired. It boots up and connects too long thus using up precious minutes that my students can use working on their assignments. My students can be more productive with more current technology.
Your gift of a Chromebook will help my students familiarize, access and use Google Drive and Docs more efficiently. They will gain academic and technical support from the adults in the room more closely and interactively. Their productivity will increase as they become more competent in using updated technology.
