Mrs. Noviello from Providence RI is requesting Reading Nooks, Desks & Storage through DonorsChoose, the #1 classroom funding site for teachers.

One Class, Many Cultures!

My students need storage units for their work and grade level reading material due to the three different grade levels in our classroom. Students have been getting frustrated because of broken pencils, and no sharpener.

My Students

Our students are special and unique in many ways. Most of them come from families with low income, and a lot of them have had difficult lives. When they get to school each morning, they are happy to see their teachers and fellow classmates. Most of our students love coming to school and would rather be here than at home.

The students in our classroom are very close and have formed great bonds together!

A lot of them have been in this classroom for two or even three school years together. Learning means a lot to them, and they all have their own different ways of working.

My Project

Our students have been struggling this school year due to limited access to materials that help them learn. Especially since this is a behavior disorder classroom, our students get easily frustrated. We have one pencil sharpener that barely works, and we constantly have pencils breaking and have to wait to get more from the school.

We are also always in need of sensory materials, which is why I ordered the sand and bead box that students can use to calm them down before or after a crisis situation.

The calming color bean bag seats would be a great asset to this classroom and would benefit students tremendously. The calming colors can be soothing while they read.

We have three grade levels in this room so we have many different books and worksheets for varying academic levels. The organizers can make it easy for students to get materials themselves by simply going to appropriate marked box or shelf.

We requested a DVD player because many of our students remember material better by seeing it rather than hearing it. Especially on days like "fun Friday", students enjoy watching movies and videos, so having a DVD player will allow them to learn while doing something they enjoy.

We requested a white board to increase student engagement. Having a white board makes it much easier to see where and which students are struggling by having them come do problems on the white board.

Many of our students are comfortable on the floor doing floor puzzles or coloring large pictures. Having the mats will give them a comfortable place to sit and do their work.
