This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Moving into chapter books is an important milestone for students! Many of my second graders are reading chapter books already, but for my students who are just beginning to read chapter books, easy-to-read books are less daunting.

My second graders attend their neighborhood school, which is economically and culturally diverse.

In an effort to save money, our school district has increased class sizes and decreased the length of the school year, which means we have less time to devote to individual students. Our goal is to work hard to increase every student's reading level and comprehension skills by reading a lot. All of my students really enjoy reading all types of books: science books, picture books, and chapter books.

My Project

These easy-to-read chapter books are perfect for my emerging readers. The stories aren't too challenging, so students can feel successful when reading them and comprehend what they are reading. Plus, the Henry and Mudge books and the Amanda and Oliver Pig books are engaging and enjoyable for kids. Students can relate to the characters and their predicaments.

Students will only become better readers if they practice reading a lot and good readers tend to do better in every subject in school.

My students this year are voracious readers and could really use some more easy-to-read chapter books so they can keep reading. With your support, we can add 30 new books to our library that will be read again and again! Thank you!
