Celebrate Black Teachers and Students
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We LOVE to read but we are running out of books to devour! Our leveled library was pieced together from "leftovers" found around our school building. And now that we are proficient readers we are ready for something new!
My students have seen endless changes over the course of the school year. Our school is a take-over school and my students entered the building this year without seeing a single familiar face. They have been pushed to perform at the highest level, with little to no resources, and they're doing a fantastic job. They have certainly transformed in beautiful ways.
My Project
These leveled readers and classic rhyming books will serve as a vital resource to our beginning readers. Some of my 2nd and 3rd grade students started the year reading on a Kindergarten level. These kids should have just as many resources available to them as the kids who are on grade level in an established school system.
My class has mastered the art of making something out of nothing. Time and again they surprise me with their creativity and resourcefulness. I encourage this and foster their ingenuity. Donating to our project will give my students the chance to do something with SOMETHING - they have earned it!
