My Students

My 2nd-grade students are an absolutely amazing group of individuals. We have a diverse population with differing abilities and challenges, My class is part of a low-income, high-poverty school district in Wisconsin. My students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. 100% of students receive free breakfast and lunch.

My students are silly, kind, caring, helpful, nurturing, and really funny.

We have faced many challenges this school year with COVID. Many students have been absent for weeks at a time, but when they come back, my students welcome them back with open arms. When we have had to take students from other classrooms into ours and I ask my students to pick a partner, teach them a game, or show them how to plant irises, they do so eagerly and willingly. It is a great group of kids.

My Project

My students really enjoy reading Dr. Seuss's books. Our collection of books is so well-loved, they are falling apart. It is time to replace these beloved books with new hardcover versions, hopefully in time for Read Across America.

Engaging, enjoyable, and entertaining books foster a love of reading.

Increased reading time leads to better readers, more vocabulary exposure, and better writers. I want my students to be as successful as possible at school and into the future. Success is facilitated through interest. When students are interested in a topic or book, they are more likely to read. Let's get my students reading!!
