I teach an incredible group of 17 third-grade students who come from a variety of academic and cultural backgrounds. What has inspired me most about my students is how they have embraced one of our core guidelines for the year: care for others.
In the midst of working hard all year long to master our 3rd grade skills and standards, my students have been loving, thoughtful, and resilient!
My energetic students love writing to our pen pals, exploring our world for "Where in the World Wednesdays," and celebrating their classmates' accomplishments. This group of kids works hard to overcome obstacles and crush the goals that we set individually and as a class!
My Project
3rd grade is a pivotal year in the life of a reader! Many of my students discovered or deepened their love of reading this year through our shared class read alouds, Media Center events at our school, and their independent reading time. They have also been motivated by the joy and satisfaction of meeting their personal reading goals. I hope to keep their love of reading alive over the summer (and avoid the summer slide!).
My goal is to make sure that every one of my students has this book in their hands so that together we can start the summer off as strong readers!
I have chosen one of the books from Florida's Sunshine State Young Reader's Award (SSYRA) list so that we can share in this summer reading journey together. Our school's media specialist plans many special events related to these SSYRA books; students will have an extra incentive to read this book in preparation for the coming school year's activities. This is also a way for us to stay connected as a class family, even from afar!
