I am a kindergarten teacher in a communications magnet school in North Carolina. We are a Title 1 school, with many students who have limited opportunities, other than the ones that are provided by us (school).
I have observed that my students are fascinated with photography. They love taking pictures of themselves and others. After attending field trips, I always provide them with pictures so that they may remember the events that took place. But, I think that it would be awesome if some of the children had the opportunity to take pictures. The children could really benefit from this photo essay/ journal experience. It will be one that they will remember for a lifetime and they will have their notebooks as a reminder.
I have requested resources that would help to make this project a success. The equipment will allow students to take pictures of their peers, not only in school but also on field trips. Students will use the composition notebooks to keep a written account of what was going on at the given time that the picture was taken. Each child will have their own notebook, so at the end of the school year, they will be able to take it home. This project will benefit the students in many different ways. They will have the opportunity to share their books and pictures with others, which will foster their communication and presentation skills. They will also be using the cameras and computers which in turn helps to enhance technology skills. The students will also be working together, at times, this helps with cooperation and other character traits.
Your generous donations will help this exciting hands-on project not only be a thought, but make it come to life. Once upon a time, when I was in Kindergarten is a project that I want to kick of for my incoming Kindergarten students. This project will be a photo essay/ journal of the students first year in school that starts from their first day in the door for kindergarten screening, all the way to the last day of school. Included in this will be field trip accounts and pictures as well as pictures from other activities throughout the school year. Most of us have completed school, but how many of us remember Kindergarten? This photo essay/ journal will be an artifact that the children will have for a lifetime. And just think, they will be able to thank the wonderful donors that provided the resources to help them create it.
