My students are bright and inquisitive fifth graders in a small, rural town outside Portland, Oregon. Our 4-6 school feeds into one middle school and a single high school. The Fifth Grade team works together to foster a warm and welcoming environment where students are taught empathy, acceptance, and kindness.
My students are building their educational foundation.
Many of the jobs they will fill do not exist today; they will need an array of skills. We are empowering these students to create, to disrupt, and to enter a swiftly changing world.
My students are going to do great things. They are going to go into the world to be game-changers and play makers. They will be leaders of the new generation, this I believe. In order to do these things, they need to hear stories from walks of life different than their own.
They need to read diverse books to understand that not everyone starts at the same line.
I want to give them as many stories from as many perspectives as possible to help them form their world view. Please help me support my wonderful, passionate students on this journey!
