My students need Fairy Tale STEM sets to explore engineering and to use creativity in a collaborative setting. We will also use them to help with retelling and understanding the characteristics of fairy tales.
This year I was given the opportunity to become our school's first ever STEAM Resource teacher.
Students from kindergarten to fifth grade walk into my classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and are excited to build.
We are a Title I school in Virginia with over 47 percent of our students receiving free or reduced breakfast/lunch.
With being a new program in our County, funding for STEAM resources is very limited. We go through tons of consumables (recyclable materials) each month so it would be amazing to have building sets that can be reused each year without having to find additional funding for future building supplies.
My Project
Sometimes it is hard for students to connect to what they are reading, but when a teacher can incorporate an engineering challenge with it, reading instantly becomes more fun.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to increase student excitement for hands on learning, but you will also increase their desire to read.
These STEM Literacy kits will allow for students to work collaboratively in groups of 3 or 4 to find a solution to a story book problem. Students will also be able to make literacy connections to the text by retelling and providing inferences to the stories.
