My students at my school are one of the most diverse classrooms I have seen. They are in the middle of their 4/5th-grade loop. There are students reading at every level from 3-8th grade. Most of the students have been going to to this school since Kindergarten.
My students are excited about reading and I hope to continue that excitement into 5th grade!
They have been immersed in a curriculum that is very rich in the arts. Because they are in a testing grade now, they are adjusting to a more standards-based curriculum. While this can be difficult for some students, these students have really been able to rise to the challenge.
My Project
I am a first-year teacher trying to build my first classroom library. While I have been able to find some books at Goodwill and thrift stores, I am trying to have books that are as diverse as the students in my class.
I think allowing the students to choose what types of books they read will give them a better appreciation for what they are reading.
This project will give me the opportunity to add books to my library that I may not be able to get otherwise. I think a great classroom library can make all the difference in whether the students are engaged in, and excited about their literary journey.
