Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are lifelong learners who crave rich learning opportunities. Over 90 percent of my students are on free lunch this year and do not have access to certain learning opportunities such as visiting the school library due to the current pandemic. Further, books provide a safe place for students to escape to. I strive to have a library that is representative of my student's interests and cultural backgrounds. This project will help me to begin achieving this.
My Project
My students are intuitive, thoughtful and crave opportunities to expand their learning. Over 90 percent of my students are on free lunch this year and I am brand new to third grade from Kindergarten! With COVID-19, we are unfortunately not able to take out books from our school library. Having a rich classroom library with various titles will help foster their love for reading, eagerness when choosing a book and versatility when reading.
Books create a opportunity for children to explore other worlds, learn alongside characters, and create real-life connections.
I want to provide my students with a wide range of books and stories that will push them beyond their comfort zone while also growing their love for reading. No two readers are the same. My hope is for my library to reflect culturally rich, ethnically diverse and various genres where each child feels represented and comfortable to continue their reading journey. A book is calling a child by name, just waiting for them to enwrap themselves around their story. These books will greatly impact the lives of my third grade lifelong learners.
