My students are my future. I do mean that honestly.
My students are the some of the most empathetic, creative, and socially responsible students I have worked with in my career.
They are also remarkably talented, dedicated, and intelligent.
They are pigeon-holed as being "elite" and "exclusive" but my theatre students rally against that stereotype when they seek out peers who have been excluded and bring them in to their theatre family... when they team up to help a fellow student realize their potential... when they go out into their community to volunteer... and when they have open-minded discussions about global events.
I'm proud to be their teacher and their director. They truly are the change we want to see in the world.
My Project
Westlake Theatre will be traveling to Scotland in 2017 upon being accepted to perform at the American High School Theatre Festival as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The Fringe is the largest performing arts festival in the world, hosting more than 3,000 performances and spanning 25 days. The American High School Theatre Festival showcases the best U.S. and Canadian high school theater groups at the Fringe.
Performing on an international stage will truly be a once in a lifetime experience for my students.
They will be able to collaborate with other theatre students, directors, technicians, and performers from around the world and gain a global perspective on their art form.
Your donation to this project will assist my students in funding their venue rental and technical equipment/staff - expenses which are not generally part of costs for student travel!
