I am the coach of our school’s running club. Students from grades k-5 come and join me each week in the fall and spring to learn about the basics of running and to love running. We have a culminating race at the end of each season, where students from all over the district race and have a wonderful time.
My goal is to instill a life long love of running for my students and to teach the fundamentals so that they can be safe runners.
My Project
I have been the coach of our school's running club for the past 4 years. Students from kindergarten through fifth grade are welcome to join. We work on conditioning skills, running habits and stamina. Many of my runners struggle because they don't know how far they run or how many steps they have taken.
These pedometers will help my runners see how far they are running during a session and then help them to set goals.
We also need cones to help set boundaries for running and batons so we can practice relay racing. Our goal is to work toward the final run of the season, where we compete against the other schools. We want our students to have a solid showing and these training materials will be beneficial.
