My students come from high poverty, low socioeconomic backgrounds. Many of them live in low-income apartments. 100% of them qualify for government assistance and the federal free lunch program. Many of them are ELL learners and speak English as a second language. However, these barriers do not discourage their love for learning!
These students come to school every day excited and ready to improve their reading and math skills.
Their parents are very concerned about their children's education to provide them a better life. Although they are disadvantaged in so many ways, you would never know it by their positive attitudes and eagerness to learn.
Everything changes. Our school is exploring a new teaching model that incorporates more cooperative learning. The students work together in smaller steps and monitor each other's learning. The teacher monitor's the room and checks for understanding. We have seen great successes with this model so far. Our problem lies with needing supplies.
Dry erase boards are a great way to monitor students, but we need those pesky dry erase markers!
These markers will make it easy for teachers to identify student mistakes and make quick corrections on the spot before the rigorous task occurs. Students can use these markers to write on desks (erasable!) or whiteboards
