My Students

These children are growing as learners and growing fast! Each day, it is so exciting to see their faces and hear the many questions they present. They are inquisitive and enjoy the success they are experiencing in second grade. They truly love school, some even get upset when it is the weekend.

In our room we have worked hard to create a safe, fun, learning atmosphere.

The children get excited to learn and like all of us, love working with things that are new and in good condition. Our school is not shiny and new, but it is definitely a warm, friendly place to come each day. The children come from a variety of backgrounds, some have everything they need to grow as learners, but many need the support of the school in order for their families to function. Whether it be the help of a before or after school program so parents can get to work, language support, assistance with providing necessities like clothes or food, or the many other ways the school family helps out, we are a close school community that strives to help all children and families reach their highest potential in order to be successful.

My Project

All children develop and learn at a different pace. I would love to have these writing materials in the classroom so we can have centers. In addition to the work we do as a class, these materials would help children stretch their thinking and develop higher writing skills when presented with the many different activities. The variety of writing journals will offer support and guidance. The Ready to Write! Prompts, the Writing Activity Prompts, the Writing Activity Pockets, and the Sequence Tiles will be a huge asset to our classroom for years to come. Children would be able to work independently and at their own pace. The centers will support their growth in narrative writing, informational writing and persuasive writing. I always tell them, "The more you write, the better you get at writing." Having fun ways to explore the art of writing will help them work on staying on topic when writing, adding more powerful details, building stronger sentences, editing their work and so much more.

This project will help these wonderful children grow as writers and continue to make them feel valued and supported.

The effects of the materials on their academic work are huge, but the emotional impact is just as great! We received a grant earlier this year and the children were truly amazed that people care enough about them to donate. Showing them that people value their learning is a huge statement and has power that stretches beyond the supplies donated.
