The students in this rural Maine community come from a background of limited opportunities, however, despite that, they are hungry to explore through multimedia. Since many students from this area come from low-income households, as an educator I would like to provide film adaptations of various topics from which students can gain an education.
Students here, while lacking in wealth and opportunity, still want the chance to broaden their horizons through film.
The library budget has been frozen for this year, and we are sorely lacking in film resources for classrooms and students to check out. Many students who struggle with other learning mediums may find film enlightening and engaging. We hope to offer films which will make students think critically about the topics they are introduced to.
My Project
Students at our school have a wide variety of learning styles. Many of them need visual images in order to fully understand learning concepts. Science videos such as Bees: Tales from the Hive can educate students on the environmental impact of bees. Social science films such as Vikings Unearthed will supplement their history classes so that these topics come alive and the learning experience becomes more than just words on a page.
These visual supplements to the material students learn in class will capture their imaginations.
Making information exciting will guarantee students remember what they are being taught. Educational videos allow students to view the world though more than just mere words.
